People sometimes think “The Villages” is just the name of a place that can be used freely like Orlando, Tampa, Philadelphia, or Miami. While it is the name of community, and as such appears on maps and can sometimes be used in an address, it is more than a pla...ce name—it is also a trademark. Places like Orlando, Tampa, Philadelphia, and Miami are not developed communities created by one developer. When a developer creates a community, and gives it a name that did not exist previously in that area, the name of the community is called a “coined term” and serves as a trademark.
